A massive 1,200-square-meter mosaic floor has been unearthed during the construction of the Antakya Hotel in Khatai, Hatay Province, Turkey in 2010.
The world's largest mosaic has been discovered in Turkey.
According to Nalan Chopuroglu Yasti, director of the archaeological museum, the mosaic is at least 1,300 years old.

"The mosaic was found by workers during the laying of the foundation of the hotel. This is a unique find dating back to the Hellenistic period," said Chopuroglu.
The mosaic is impressive for its enormous size, the geometric shapes on it, and the non-repeating content of the drawings. The complex work simulates 13 different civilizations, spanning from the ancient Greek to the Islamic period.

Nalan Chopuroglu Yasti, director of the Hatay Archaeological Museum, said: "It attracts attention because it is curved like a carpet. As a result of the strong earthquakes of 526 and 528 BC, the mosaic was formed in this way. It is partly preserved, partly destroyed."
