28yo’s touching tribute to cricket legend dad
Cricket’s most sacred ground has witnessed an impossibly moving tribute as Brooke Warne channels her father’s legacy.
It’s day two of the Boxing Day Test and all eyes are on the 28-year-old daughter of cricket legend Shane Warne.
Lifestyle influencer Brooke Warne has spent the last two days at the iconic cricket event wearing pieces from her father’s career.
On the first day of the Boxing Day Test Brooke wore one of her father’s Ashes shirts. On the second day she wore the 1998 and 1999 Australian team’s travel shirt.
Meanwhile her younger brother Jackson was wearing one of Warne’s jerseys from 1996 to 1997.
She said wearing one of the shirts always made the test feel extra special. It wasn’t Brooke’s only mission for the sacred test, with 56 stations set up at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to encourage Australians to get a health check, in honour of The Spin King, for the third year in a row.
It was the first year that an English cricket team would be playing under the stand that has been dedicated to the cricket legend.
“Cricket will never be the same for us. We go to an occasional game here and there but it’s very hard for us to go,” she said.
“Usually if we were going to the Boxing Day Test we would be going with Dad or he’d be leaving us to go and work at the Boxing Day Test…
“It’s not really the same anymore but we hold we are having a positive effect with all of our health checks.”
She said during the test she was hoping to hit 400,000 checks. It was far from the only way the Boxing Day Test honoured Warne, with the whole stadium tipping their hats in dedication to him.
People were touched by not only the moment but by Brooke’s dedication to honouring her father.
“Your dad would be very proud of you Brooke,” one person wrote.
Another said: “Very special Brooke, he would be so happy with the impact he has had on you kids and all of Australia. We miss him too. Lots of love to you guys.”
“OMG this made me want to cry. Losing a Dad is a pain unlike anything else. He would be so proud of you,” another social media user said.
One added: “Your dad was a complete legend I’m a Pom and we respected him so much️.”
“It was a privilege to see your Dad play was and always will be the King of the Flipper,” one commented.
One added: “No doubt he is beaming with pride from his kids. So sad and so sorry you don’t have him with you.”
