The Trump family is believed to be planning a mega-tower for a beachfront site on the Gold Coast - and it hasn't gone down well with Australians.
Council sources have said the tower, which will be decorated with iconic gold Trump lettering, is planned for the vacant site at 3 Trickett Street in Surfers Paradise.
'There are no details on it yet. We have no application with the City at this time,' a source told the Gold Coast Bulletin on Thursday.
'But we have seen plans with renders. And they have a gold Donald Trump on it.
'Every Trump hotel has a big gold Donald Trump on it, and this one will be the same.
'It's nothing new - it's not the first time this property has had Trump interest. It's the same developer. It's the Trump Tower.'
The Bulletin reported that the current owner of the land is looking into ways for the plan to become a reality, including bringing in an unnamed Australian developer.
Donald Trump previously started negotiations to build a near-identical hotel on the Gold Coast in 2008, but abandoned the project due to the global financial crisis.
The Trump family is considering a 'Trump Tower' on the Gold Coast years after Donald Trump first considered building a property on Australian soil
The tower would be built on an undeveloped plot of land in Surfers Paradise
A council source said there has been no application to the local authority but there are plans which show a building with a gold 'Donald Trump' on it (pictured, Trump Tower in Las Vegas)
Mayor Tom Tate and Councillor Darren Taylor have shared their support for anyone interested in developing the city's shoreline, including the US President.
'The city has received no development application for the site so cannot say who the interested parties might be,' Mr Tate told the Bulletin.
'Certainly the Iluka site is a premium piece of land for a resort or hotel development so I would not be surprised if the Trump family are interested after I wrote to Mr Trump last year to put the Gold Coast and our film industry on his agenda.
'We need more hotel developments in advance of the 2032 Olympics and we would welcome an investment of this nature.'
Local Liberal MP Zoe McKenzie said she hopes the Trumps could also expand beyond the Gold Coast.
'I stayed at the Iluka Resort site, which is where it's planned for, but I wouldn't want him to stop just at that site because we've got a couple of islands that could be Trump Island,' she told the Today Show on Friday.
She said Dunk Island, Keppel Island and Lindeman Island were 'sitting there underdeveloped'.
But Aussies have reacted negatively to the news that the US leader might want to build a 'Trump Tower' Down Under.
The plans would be for a vacant lot at 3 Trickett Street on the coast
But Australians have responded negatively to the idea of a Trump tower on the Gold Coast
'Please, just no,' one person wrote, with another simply adding: 'Ewwwwwwwwww.'
A third commenter said: 'We're lucky he's not threatening to make us his 53rd state.'
But one user suggested the Gold Coast would be perfect for a Trump property, saying: 'If such a thing was ever gonna go in AU, Goldie is the place I suppose.'
If a 'Trump Tower' were to be built, it would likely be carried out by property portfolio The Trump Organization, which is run by the president's sons Donald Jr. and Eric.
In the case that plans did go ahead, they would potentially work with an Australian developer after Trump commented in 2008 that he would not enter the property market solo.
'Maybe I'll even get involved in Australia,' he told the Australian Financial Review at the time.
'If I do something in Australia, I'd want to have a partner in Australia.'
The Daily Mail has contacted The Trump Organization and Mayor Tom Tate for comment.
The 3494-square-metre site on Trickett Street has been empty since 2013.
It is owned by Macau casino operator Loi Keong Kuong, who bought the land for $56.5million in 2019 from Chinese developer Forise.
Forise had approval from city council for an 89-storey 'super tower', which would have been home to almost 700 units.
The project cost more than $120million to dig a hole on the land but came to a halt in June 2018, and later sold to Loi Keong Kuong.
