Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis looked like the picture of happiness in their lavish Perth wedding photos, but the celebration was cut short by an unfortunate detail that emerged right after the vows. The "heartbreaking reality" they now face has left them both stunned—and it’s not the fairytale ending fans expected.

Perth soccer superstar Sam Kerr has shared the first official photos from her wedding, posting loved-up snapshots to Instagram on Saturday afternoon.

The Matildas captain shared the stunning photos with a simple caption: “Wifey”.

One photo shows the newlyweds sharing a kiss, with Kerr dressed in a black tuxedo and her now wife, US soccer star Kirstie Mewis, wearing a beaded gown and veil.

The second photos shows the celebrations in full swing, with Kerr carrying her bride on her shoulders as Mewis raises a champagne glass.

The post comes days after the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in Perth on New Year’s Eve.

Kerr was photographed leaving Crown Towers ahead of the ceremony on Wednesday, accompanied by her family, and carrying a baby bottle for the her seven-month-old son, Jagger, who played a special role on the day with Kerr walking him down the aisle.

On her podcast, Mewis had previously revealed the moment would be an emotional one, saying she would “sob” when it happened.
